Mike Stewart is the owner of Wildrose Kennels, Inc. located in Oxford, Mississippi, with training facilities in Jasper, Arkansas (along the Buffalo River) and in Granite, Colorado (parallel to the Colorado Trail). Wildrose is an importer of British and Irish Labrador retrievers. The kennel is an Orvis-endorsed facility specializing in producing their trademark retrievers, “The Gentleman’s Gundog,” and “The Adventure Dog,” companion Labradors for enthusiasts and their families who enjoy an outdoor sporting lifestyle. Mike is the founder of the Adventure Dog Certification program, a unique self-guided, training curriculum developing dogs of all breeds into splendid companions of the trail. Mike has over 30 years of experience training and hunting a variety of sporting dogs, but is best known for his appearance on Ducks Unlimited TV, “The World of Ducks,” with Drake and Deke, the DU Mascots. Mike and his dogs have appeared in over 80 national television programs. He conducts retriever, Adventure Dog and scent detection canine training workshops throughout the United States instructing in his unique training methodology– a gentle, positive way to develop versatile, sporting companions. He has produced two comprehensive training DVDs entitled, “Training the Wildrose Way,” The Gentlemen’s Gundog series. Wildrose was featured on the cover article of Forbes Magazine, April 13, 2009 edition, as one of six luxury, recession-proof businesses and Garden and Gun’s magazine selecting Wildrose as “The Best of the Sporting South” in fall, 2009.
A law enforcement officer for 25 years, Mike retired as Chief of Police for the University of Mississippi. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and the FBI National Academy, Quantico, Virginia. Mike retired from the US Navy Reserves in 2005 as a Commander after 20 years of service.
